Let's Lift the Curfew!

Let's Lift the Curfew - Tues 28th October

Dorking and Mole Valley Athletics Club (DMVAC) is proud to be organising a ‘Let’s Lift the Curfew’ run on Tuesday 28th October and is inviting any local women runners to join one of its regular 6.45pm training runs in Dorking on that evening.

‘Let’s Lift the Curfew’ events are spearheaded by Sport England’s ‘This Girl Can’ campaign and are supported by England Athletics. They call attention to the unwanted curfew many women feel during the darker months, when safety concerns limit their freedom to get active outdoors.

The initiative has been running since October 2023, highlighting women’s stories and concerns around getting active outdoors in the darker months.

Experienced DMVAC run leaders will take members and non-members on runs around Dorking on the evening, with varying pace and distance.

To join the ‘Let’s Lift the Curfew’ run, contact DMVAC at contact@dmvac.org. or book onto the run via our "Left's Lift the Curfew" RunTogether page

Run start at 6.45pm from the car park by M&S in St Martin’s Walk, Dorking.

“We want to help make athletics and running as safe, enjoyable and accessible for all as possible, and Let’s Lift the Curfew is a key part of encouraging women to be active in ways that work for them, regardless of age, background or ability."  England Athletics CEO, Chris Jones

“Through the campaign, we’re calling on wider society to acknowledge their role in making getting active outdoors safer for women.  Many women already feel excluded from the world of exercise – and this is heightened by safety fears around being active outdoors during the dark winter months.  Safety fears should never prevent women getting active – but the sad reality is that they are a major barrier. That’s why we’re proud to be in the third year of Let’s Lift the Curfew, raising awareness and calling for change. Everyone is invited and welcome to join us.”  Kate Dale, Director of marketing at Sport England and This Girl Can.
